One night, during the spring of 2023 as he slept for 11 hours, a recording of his neural activity revealed hundreds of short, sonic dreams.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This work transcribes B5&#8217;s dream-filled night into a musical score, making his dreams audible by mapping patterns of neural activity during sleep against those recorded while singing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Poem, post, song or dream, every act of thought becomes a data point to feed a new machine. Let us slow down, really listen and observe each of these points, because when we are no longer able to understand what it is like to be another, only objectification and oppression remain. Through sound, I was drawn to the study of living organisms: buzzing mosquitoes, synchronising fireflies, pigeons, ants, and songbirds. Along the way, I have encountered many fascinating beings \u2013 individuals often dismissed as pests, objects or mere datapoints. I believe that there is space for empathy in science. Die wissenschaftliche Forschung dazu bildet den Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr Robin Meier Wiratungas k\u00fcnstlerische Arbeit. Im Mittelpunkt steht der Traum eines Zebrafinken, der im Fr\u00fchling 2023 aufgezeichnet wurde. Der Vogel hie\u00df B5 \u2013 wie die gleichnamige Musiknote \u2013 und lebte rund f\u00fcnf Jahre im Labor. Zebrafinken gelten als Modellorganismen der experimentellen Hirnforschung. Ausgangspunkt f\u00fcr Meier Wiratungas Arbeit war das Interesse an der Forschung, doch nach und nach r\u00fcckte das Individuum B5 mehr in den\u00ad Fokus. Enstanden ist schlie\u00dflich eine Art Portr\u00e4t \u2013 zusammengestellt aus den \u00fcber den Vogel gesammelten Daten und dem, was sonst \u00fcber ihn bekannt ist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">B5\u2019s Dream besch\u00e4ftigt sich nicht nur mit Fragen, die im Zusammenspiel von Neurowissenschaften, Verhaltensforschung und K\u00fcnstlicher Intelligenz entstehen, sondern auch mit jenen, die unbeantwortet bleiben. Was k\u00f6nnen wir wissen? Welche Mittel sind ethisch legitim, um Erkenntnisse \u00fcber Lebewesen zu gewinnen? Wie gehen wir mit dem Paradox um, dass Wissen \u00fcber Verwandtschaften zwischen Arten oft durch Gefangenschaft oder T\u00f6tung von Individuen entsteht? Und wie ver\u00e4ndern Technologie und Wissenschaft unsere Vorstellungen von Bewusstsein und Wahrnehmung?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Handgebundenes Leporello, Stereo-Sound B5\u2019s Dream (11 Stunden)<br>Ein Forschungsergebnis zeigt, dass bei V\u00f6geln im Traum h\u00e4ufig dieselben Hirnareale aktiv sind wie beim Singen im Wachzustand. Mithilfe von Gehirnstromaufzeichnungen und algorithmischer Auswertung konnte festgestellt werden, dass Zebrafinken Melodien zun\u00e4chst tr\u00e4umen, bevor sie sie Tage\u00ad sp\u00e4ter singen. In dem Leporello sind elf Stunden Traumzeit von B5 aufgezeichnet.
