NPR on Björk at Pompidou

3 minute radio piece on NPR (National Public Radio), the American public broadcasting organization.

Visitors can hear Björk’s immersive, otherworldly soundscape, Nature Manifesto, over the next few weeks as they climb the long, glass escalator that hugs the side of Centre Pompidou in Paris, France.

Conceived as a post-optimistic manifesto on nature, this sound piece by Björk and Aleph addresses the unprecedented loss of biodiversity and the collapse of ecosystems. The work combines Björk’s voice, reading her manifesto, with the cries of extinct and endangered animals, harmonized with natural soundscapes. Envisioning a future where the resilience of biology forms new combinations in nature, the work gives voice to silent nature, transforming its quietude into sound and resonating within our collective imagination. The sounds were edited and produced by Björk in collaboration with Robin Meier Wiratunga, using Ircam softwares and artificial intelligence models.
